One of my favorite procedures (and one that I believe is the “best bang for your buck”) is the blepharoplasty. A blepharoplasty addresses the excess skin, muscle, and/or fat around the eyes. Blepharoplasty can be categorized as upper or lower, and it’s quite common to do both at the same time.
Upper Blepharoplasty
An “upper bleph” addresses the “hooding”, fullness, or excess skin above the eyes.
By selectively removing excess skin, muscle, and/or fat, the upper eyelid youthful look is restored. The trade-off is a small scar, well healed within the upper eyelid crease.
Lower Blepharoplasty
A “lower bleph” addresses the “bags”, crinkly skin, and tired appearance of the lower eyelids.
This surgery can be done through the inside of the lower eyelid (no scar), or through a small scar just under the eyelashes. It is done under general anesthesia, and the swelling and slight bruising can last up to two weeks after the procedure.
Because of the relatively short down time, small to no scar burden, and radically transformative nature of these procedures, blepharoplasty remains one of Dr. C’s favorite and “best bang for your buck” surgeries.
