Bothered by a double chin?
Luckily, there are a variety of ways to address fullness under the chin and sculpt the jawline. Below are some examples of procedures from least to most invasive that address the double chin:
1. Injections – Deoxycholic acid (aka “Kybella”) is a minimally-invasive injection that can be used to “dissolve” the fat under the chin. Multiple injections are done over several sessions for complete treatment.
2. Fillers – Fillers such as Radiesse or Sculptra can be used to augment the chin and jawline, making the distinction between your face and your neck sharper.
3. Liposuction – Liposuction is done through small holes in the skin. Through these small holes (usually hidden behind the ears) tiny cannulas are inserted and the fat below the chin is suctioned out. This improves the chin and jawline contour and can be done under local or general anesthesia.
4. Necklift / “Mini” Facelift – a procedure that specifically addresses the chin and neck. Can include direct fat excision (submental lipectomy), excess skin removal (cervicoplasty), and be combined with muscle tightening under the chin (platysmaplasty) or salivary gland reduction.
5. Facelift – this surgery is done under general anesthesia to remove fat and loose, saggy skin around the chin and neck, removing a double chin. This can address the chin, neck, and face all at once.
The procedures above can be done alone or in combination, depending on your specific needs.
